PERMITS:

If you are planning to make improvements to your property you must first obtain building permits from Costilla County.  You can contact them at:  Planning and Zoning Office, 400 Gasper Street, PO Box 130, San Luis, CO 81152  Attn: Matthew Valdez -  Phone (719) 672-9109,   Fax (719) 672-3003,  E-mail costilla@centurytel.net  Web address for the county is www.costilla-county.com  You can download permits from here.

ELECTRICAL:

Xcel Energy,   Phone (800)895-4999.  You will need to complete an application and provide them with the following:  Unit, Block, and Lot plus physical address of the property.  Have all corners clearly marked.  Note that the extension of all power will now be underground and not overhead unless there is a variance granted by Costilla County.

TELEPHONE & INTERNET:

Blanca Telephone Co., 129 Santa Fe Avenue, Alamosa, CO 81101  Phone (719)589-2964.  There is a $75 application fee and an application form that you need to complete.  It is helpful to them if you can tell them if there is a phone pedestal box on or near your property.

COSTILLA COUNTY SHERIFF

Problems with trespassing, vandalism, theft, etc. should be reported to the Costilla County Sheriff's Department directly. SCRO has no authority or jurisdiction in these matters. NOTE:  Wildlife Poaching  is ILLEGAL. To report poachers, please call 1-800-332-4155.

ROADS/FIRE MITIGATION

There are two County Shops. For most roads in the Ranches, and to repair or replace road signs, call Larry at the Ft. Garland shop at 719-379-3446. For same in the extreme southern end of the ranches, call Leroy at the San Luis shop. For Fire Mitigation-If you have brush/slash that you’d like to haul away from your lot, call Leroy or Daniel at the San Luis shop, 719-672-3613. They will have you drive by the shop, inspect your load, then give you a gate key and direct you to the dump area. This is for dead wood only and no trash will be accepted.
